Research - Conventions Of The Front Page Of NME Magazine

I have chosen to denotate an NME production as they have a similar target audience to the one which I shall be aiming towards. In addition as the NME is a magazine which is produced to entertain rather than just inform I have decided to look at how the NME approaches this - rather than the alternative of looking at a number of magazines purely aimed at informing students. I believe this approach could make my production more popular than the average College production. Back to the conventions and it's perhaps quite surprising that a name as well known as the NME do not have their title larger on their front page - it is almost as if one has to search for it rather than it thrown at you in other productions. For example the artists name 'Foo Fighters' is in a larger sized font to the masthead. Despite being a fan of the NME's productions I do not agree with this choice - more over this is a factor I will bear in mind when it comes to my own production. With regards to the title's font it is again a red colour - I believe as it is a very bright - eye catching colour designed to grab attention. The main image displayed on the front cover is a close up, however in contrast to the 'College' production it is overlapped by text giving the impression is not as important as the text - such as what to expect inside the production. Of course the NME unlike 'College' magazine is not free and a bar code can yet again be found on the bottom right of the page - a clear convention in both productions. In total there are five images including the main picture on the front page of the NME - the other four are accompanied by sub-title's showing what is to come inside. This is in contrast yet again to college magazine, whom decided upon a caption with detail rather than a simple image. My conclusion on this decision is it was chosen as the NME prefers to appear as more of an entertainment production rather than to inform - pictures it seems in the NME's opinion are more interesting than simply text.
